SPRING 2018

Open Stitch is a collective that questions how we can re-imagine a knitwear system that brings people together as well as connecting them with their own waste. This is done through the elements of collaborative design and incorporating traditional handcraft methods with industrial knitting processes.
- Knitwear generated by social storytelling networks
- Circular yarn production
- Equal access knit library of techniques
- Combination of techniques and stories
1.
Knitwear generated by social storytelling networks
Interviews and activities with community members produce or inspire knit instructions.

2.
Circular yarn production
The raw material used is the everyday waste of the T-shirt. Discarded or excess production shirts are converted back into yarn suitable for knitwear and sourced by sponsorship from Goodwill, TS Designs and Custom Ink.

3.
Equal access knit library of techniques
A public library is an equal access institution that brings knowledge and opportunity to all who enter.

4.
Combination of techniques and stories
Multiple stories were combined onto one T-shirt to show the new formed connections and intersections of stories.
